| Parent School Association (PSA) Saint Pius X School has an outstanding Parent School Association. The PSA helps raise funds for the school, and provides enriching programs and unique opportunities for our students to learn about and experience cultural differences. Executive Board
PSA Services and Committees PSA Newsletter and Bulletin Board The PSA news contained within the school’s newsletter, is posted here and distributed monthly. The PSA bulletin is board located across from the school’s library entrance. It is updated monthly providing details for up coming PSA sponsored events and volunteer requests. Craft Fair This is a very popular one-day event that is well attended by the community. Many volunteers are needed to keep this a successful event. There are a number of areas where assistance is needed including the kitchens, parking lot attendants, raffle tickets, vendors, and bake sale tables. This event generally takes place during the month of November. Entertainment Books Each year student’s families receive a book to review and a letter explaining the goals for this fund-raiser. Year after year, the students benefit greatly from this fund-raiser because profits are returned directly back to the school for the school’s use. These books may be purchased through the New Year. Special Event Committees These events are planned throughout the school year so that students may bring their families together at fun social functions. These events are a good way for parents to meet parents and for the children to spend time with their classmates in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. These committees also thank the school’s faculty for the effort they expend in educating our children. Standing Committees These committees support the many functions planned by the parish or school throughout the year. Some committees give new students and their families information, support and guidance as they navigate the new school year, while others thank the school’s faculty for the effort they expend in educating our children. The foundation of each committee is based upon a parent’s dedication to volunteer and ensure a positive educational experience not only for their child, but the St. Pius X student body. Publicity Committee Any event that deserves mentioning because it is open to the community or if there is a success within our school or parish, this committee coordinates with the appropriate media and news publications. Room Representatives This is our most successful way to assist the faculty and students throughout the school year. The responsibilities vary slightly depending on the grade. At the beginning of each school year a meeting is held for all interested parents. Social Committee These parent volunteers are responsible for coordinating refreshments and supplies for a number of events throughout the school year. It begins at the Ice Cream Social and continues throughout the school year to the Spring Open House. Teacher Appreciation Committee On behalf of all parents, this committee coordinates two faculty luncheons in addition to ‘Welcome Back’ and ‘Teacher Appreciation’ baskets. Welcoming Committee This committee is here to help parents and answer any questions. If the committee representatives are unable to help directly, they will direct the parent to the appropriate contact. Box Tops for Education Box tops are collected year round. (Information will be sent home.) Cultural Programs This is a great way to help broaden a child’s cultural experiences within the framework of his/her educational day. In the past, the school has hosted the Harlem Wizards, who played basketball against the faculty; the Nego Gato Afro-Brazilian Music and Dance Group; and Ball in the House, an a cappella group from Boston. Look for the Cultural Arts table at various school events. School Banking This PSA sponsored student service teaches children the importance of saving money. There is a high interest rate and prizes are awarded when an account obtains a certain balance giving further incentive for continued savings. Banking is held on Wednesdays during the lunch periods. (Information will be sent home.) Special Occasion Books This program began as a way to build and replenish the books of the school library. It has grown into a wonderful way for you to reward your child for special events in their life. Parents or family members can donate books, which are dedicated with a nameplate in the name of your child. This is a wonderful way to make your child feel special and support the reading habits of all students. |
