| Events Ice Cream Social The first day of school can be very stressful, for both new students and parents! The Ice Cream Social is a perfect way to make that day as smooth as possible. This PSA sponsored event is held before the first day of school. It is a fun, informal way for new families to meet the teachers, become oriented to the school, and to make some new friends! Fall Open House Held in September, the Fall Open House provides parents with the necessary information for the upcoming school year. Principal Mullahy gives a welcoming speech, and Father Farano speaks about our school’s philosophy and mission. The Presidents of the School Board and Parent School Association also give brief speeches, explaining their function and encouraging parents to join. Parents then proceed to their children’s classroom, where teachers discuss their goals and plans for the upcoming year. The PSA Social Committee provides refreshments afterwards. Get Acquainted Night Get Acquainted Night, sponsored by the PSA, is a way for families to get together and enjoy a night of fun! Held in October, this night is filled with terrific food, music, and conversation! It is also a way for new families to come together and meet in a relaxed setting. It is a well attended event, and all are sure to have a wonderful time! Craft Fair The Craft Fair, held in November, is a popular community event. Between 110-120 vendors participate, offering a wide variety of craftsmanship. Many volunteers are utilized in various areas kitchen, parking lot attendants, raffle tickets, vendors, and bake sale tables. The success of this day is due to volunteer participation and the well-coordinated efforts of the PSA Committee Chair. Cultural Events Throughout the year, the PSA sponsors various events, which are designed to enhance and broaden the children’s cultural experiences. The Nego-Gato Afro-Brazilian Dance Group, the Chinese Dance Troupe, the Catholic Schools Week This week is one to be remembered! Held in late January, it begins with the School Open House. Parents are able to take tours of the school and get a real sense of how strong the St. Pius X school curriculum and community is. The PSA Social Committee provides food and refreshments. In addition to prayer services, Masses, and Christian service projects, the children celebrate being in a Catholic School Community by partaking in various activities, such as bowling (busing sponsored by the PSA), pajamas parties, ice cream parties, and watch movies while eating popcorn! But most of all, children realize what it means to be attending a Catholic school, and what a gift it is to be part of such a wonderful school community. Roller Skating A roller skating party is held in the Fall and in the Spring. The PSA brings in an outside company, who provide the roller skates and music for a fun filled night. The students have a fantastic time, as it allows them to spend quality time with their friends and siblings. Spring Dance After a cold winter, the Spring Dance is the perfect way to greet the new season! The PSA sponsors a Spring Dance for the students, providing the music for an exciting and entertaining night. The student body enjoys this opportunity to socialize with their friends in a fun and relaxing setting. Spirit Day There is no better way to end the school year than with a celebration! Spirit Day is exactly that a day to express school spirit! The 8th grade vs. the Faculty in kickball, music and dancing, and face painting are just a few of the things this day has in store. Activities are set up in stations, so everyone will get a chance to enjoy the festivities. Hotdogs and hamburgers are served, as well as fruit, snacks, dessert and juice. The PSA coordinates many of the events, and purchases all necessary supplies to ensure a fun and exciting day for everyone. This day is made possible by the School, the PSA, and the generosity of parents. Being a student and family at St. Pius X is truly a wonderful gift, and this day acknowledges that. |
